E-cigs are far less toxic then the average cigarettes.
Average cigarettes have over 4000 different chemicals, 43 of which can cause
some form of cancer and they contain another 400 toxins. The 2013 library briefing at the European
Parliament concluded that; “In 2009, a
study by the US Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) found dangerous substances
"at very low levels". A recent laboratory study shows that levels of
toxic substances in e-cigarette vapour are 9–450 times lower than in cigarette
smoke and, in many cases, comparable with trace amounts found in medicinal
nicotine inhalers.”
Q) What is e-liquid
made out of?
E-liquid is made primarily of Vegetable Glycerin (VG) and
Propylene Glycol (PG) and nicotine. Nicotine is a stimulant like caffeine and
can increase blood pressure and heart rate however with e-cigs you are able to
step down the nicotine levels until you are at 0Mg nicotine. Propylene glycol is considered generally
recognized as safe (GRAS) by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, and it is
used as a solvent, and preservative in food. Vegetable Glycerin is a simple polyol (sugar alcohol)
compound and is used as a solvent and sweetener in food.
Q) Can e-cigs
really help me quit smoking?
E-cigs have shown to be a vehicle for people to quit
smoking. With e-cigs you can have the same sensation of smoking while being
able to cut down on the nicotine levels. This allows you to have more control
over your nicotine intake and cut back at a pace that is comfortable for you.
You can talk to someone who uses e-cigs to hear their testimonial in order to
make up your own mind. E-cig users (vapers) report that there is a similar
sensation (nicotine hit) as that from a regular cigarette.
Q) What are the benefits
of Electronic Cigarettes
•Save money over buying tobacco cigarettes
•Healthier than traditional tobacco cigarettes
•Smoke in smoke free areas: restaurants, hotels, etc… (electronic
cigarettes create vapor, not smoke)
•E-cig vapor is odor free so it keeps you and others from
smelling of smoke
Q) Can kids and
teens purchase e-cigs and e-liquid?
No. The bill SB 882 has prohibited any sale and
distribution of e-cigs and e-liquid to minors. Reputable e-cig stores check ID
to ensure that there is no sales of these products to minors.
Q) Are e-cigs a
tobacco product?
No, e-cigs can contain nicotine however there is no
tobacco in the e-juice and there is no combustion, no smoke and no odor.
Q) Have e-cigs
been banned in California
Ca. Senate Bill 400 has been terminated which would have
